Unemployment Insurance In Wisconsin, you can apply for unemployment insurance benefits by telephone. The telephone number is usually listed in government pages of your local telephone directory under "Wisconsin, State of." Information about benefits is also available on the Department of Workforce Development web site. If you have worked a sufficient number of weeks during the past year to qualify for benefits, you are eligible for the benefits whenever you are fired from a job unless the employer can prove that you were fired for misconduct. You are generally not eligible for benefits if you quit a job, unless you can prove that you were fired due to good cause attributable to the employer. If you receive an Initial Determination from the Department indicating that you are ineligible for benefits, you can appeal this decision by requesting a hearing before an administrative law judge. At the hearing, the judge will consider the evidence that is presented by you and your employer. If you need legal representation for such a hearing, please feel free to contact our office.
